We are deeply blessed as we remember our service missions, Nauvoo (2002 & 2015), Mosida Handcart Trek Site (2003-2004), and Maui (2005-2006). Back home we are getting caught up on things, seeing family a little more often, and for me, coaching two new senior project Capstone teams in the BYU College of Engineering. We recently traded the ‘Valley Isle’ for Utah Valley, and Haleakala for Mount Timpanogos. We love where we’ve been, and love where we have returned. Other than a cold or flu, we are enjoying being home.
A month before leaving Maui I got a ping on the professional social media site, LinkedIn, “Hi Ken, I came across your impressive background, and it caught my attention…” Normally such inquiries, especially on social media steer me away. But since I always hoped to use my professional skills to serve the Lord, the next line caught my attention.
“I work for the Service Mission Office (SMO) headquarters for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We are currently looking for a senior service missionary (volunteer position) to serve as the manager of a six-member technical support team. In this position you will help develop and mold training for the more than 35,000 senior service missionaries throughout the world. Your experience in delivering solutions and coordinating efforts aligns well with what we’re looking for.” She described the position, I talked it over with Joan, we prayed, and responded that I was interested. Long story short, I went through the interview process with my bishop and stake presidency and was set apart again a week ago as a Service Missionary. I am now in training. I look forward to working with the team that is helping service missionaries across the world have meaningful, varied and effective experiences blessing people through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Consecrated service to others has always blessed my life. I know it will continue to bless me and my family, forever.
